The Corner of Broad & Erie Avenue, Unknown City, Frances E. Noonan, 1918

This is Frances E. Noonan, who was 8 months old when this portrait was photographed.  There is a date provided,  3/4/1918, but it's unclear if this is her birth date, or the date of the sitting.  The photographer's name is embossed in the lower left corner:  "Williams, Broad & Erie Ave."  Using the streets mentioned, I've tried to identify the city in which this photo was taken.  Perhaps it is Philadelphia, but it could be a number of other locations as well.

I searched for Frances E. Noonan in some of the genealogy databases without finding anything I considered a firm possibility.

Have you any leads to send my way?  I'd love to hear from you.

  1. I found a Francis E. Noonan of the right age on the 1920 census, living in Pottsville Ward 7, Schuylkill, Pennsylvania, which is not that far from Philadelphia. A Google Map search shows the intersection of Broad and Erie occurring in five U.S. locations, but only in Philadelphia is it Erie AVENUE. Maybe the family went into Philadelphia for a day to be photographed?

  2. Hi Amanda,
Thanks for your comment and hard work on this mystery. I think you're right on the money with Francis E. Noonan from Schuykill. I have a reference request in with the Philadelphia library for a look up in their 1918 City Directory to see if there is a Williams Studio on the corner of Broad & Erie. Will update here if I find out anything.
